Law School and potential incomes

At my law school they tell us the point of law school is to learn how to think like lawyers, to learn the basics, and to get an understanding of how to start. Every job requires some hands on training & experience, all most types of schools do is put the first few years at the cost of the students instead of the firms. It also gives you at least some time to learn about law before you choose an area of practice. Of course, my biggest problem with law school is that dangling the potential for big incomes in front of a bunch of kids seems to focus everyone on the payday and not actually learning how to be a good lawyer.
